'Jigarthanda' Movie Review Round-up: Don't Miss It

Siddharth-Lakshmi Menon's "Jigarthanda" has received positive reviews from critics.

Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, "Jigarthanda" has Simha and Karunkaran in pivotal roles. The musical gangster flick is Karthik's second film after the superhit comedy horror film "Pizza." It remains to be seen whether the film will be able to impress the audience.

Plot: Karthi Subramaniam (Siddharth), an aspiring filmmaker, plans to make a gangster film. He decides to have Madurai as his film's backdrop and travels to the place to write his script. There, with the help of his friend Oorni (Karunakaran), Karthik does a case study on local gangster Sethu (Simhaa). What happens next is shown with a lot of twists and turns.

Critics have appreciated director Karthik Subbaraj for coming up with an impressive script. While Siddharth and Karunkaran have given a neat performance, it is Simhaa who steals the show, according to the critics. Other actors have also done their parts well.

Film's music by Santosh Narayanan and cinematography by Gavemic U Ary have won loads of appreciation from the critics.

"Jigarthanda is raw, clearly told and properly delivered. Every scene you see has a purpose, experimenting on the grounds of realism and relativity. When films about films miserably fail, this dessert will be a genuine crowd puller. With a list of actors, tons of shots and hundreds of applause evoking dialogues, Jigarthanda is a beautifully orchestrated story," said Behindwoods Review Board.

"First things first. Hats off to director Karthik Subbaraj's guts to go about this script, that has a complex narrative style. The next best thing he has done is casting the most appropriate people for the roles. As soon as the movie starts, you are introduced to the brutal dons and their lifestyles," said Sai Shyam G of iflickz.com.

"With interesting twists, you might be wondering if the second half will have more bloodshed. On the contrary, it turns out to be a complete laugh riot. The movie also has satirical dialogues against TV channels that sensationalise reality shows," he said.

"Jigarthanda is one of those films made with a divergent notion. It is a story of passion and grit, coupled with betrayal and relationships. After long, a movie about making a movie will become a hit movie," said Siddarth Srinivas of Cinemalead.

"Karthik Subburaj is here to stay, his lateral thinking on taking a leaf out of a gangster tale, changing elements of nature and serving the dish with the right amount of ingredients is no easy task, however he leaves his signature all over!" according to Indiaglitz.
